For more than two decades, EagleMed air ambulance crews took to the skies across the central United States to care for critically ill and injured patients. But behind that lifesaving work is a history marked by devastating helicopter crashes that killed crew members, seriously injured others, and permanently changed the lives of the families, coworkers, and first responders left behind.
Soul Survivors tells that story through firsthand accounts from flight nurses, paramedics, pilots, first responders, former employees, survivors, and families who experienced these events directly. Their stories reconstruct what happened before, during, and after the crashes while revealing the extraordinary human consequences that can remain long after an accident investigation is closed.
The film also looks beyond the individual crashes to examine larger questions surrounding air-medical safety, regulatory oversight, crash survivability, crash-resistant fuel systems, drug-testing requirements, and the lessons that can be carried forward to protect future flight crews.
At its core, Soul Survivors is about the people behind the aircraft—the crews who went to work expecting to save someone else’s life, and the survivors and families whose experiences continue to shape the conversation about safety in the air-medical industry.

Soul Survivors has not yet premiered. The film is currently being submitted to film festivals, with premiere and screening dates to be announced as selections are confirmed.

Crash-resistant fuel systems are designed to reduce fuel leakage and post-impact fire in otherwise survivable helicopter crashes. This section examines the regulations, the legacy-aircraft gap, available retrofit systems, and the continuing push to improve occupant survivability.
FAA drug and alcohol testing requirements apply to defined safety-sensitive aviation personnel, including flight crewmembers, maintenance personnel, and others. This section examines who is covered, when testing is required, and where questions remain about the scope and effectiveness of the current system.
For decades, the NTSB has issued safety recommendations following helicopter air-ambulance accidents, addressing issues such as pilot training, risk assessment, flight following, equipment, and safety-management systems. This section tracks those recommendations, the FAA’s responses, and the changes that followed.
